I have Live Messenger 8 Beta and when I double-click the exe (Vista beta 2)
to install it (runs fine on XP) it asks me the necessary questions, and then
nothing happens. No process running, nothing. Any ideas?
Thanks,
David.

Make sure you're running without UAC as this has caused troubles before.

Also, make sure you aren't running any previous beta versions of WLM or have
them installed - it's never a good idea to install a beta on top of another
beta.

Check the Windows Firewall to see if it is blocked, Open Control Panel >
(set to "Classic View") > Windows Firewall > Exception tab > if Windows Live
Messenger is not checked, check it to unblock it.

If its UAC (User Account Protection), Click Start > All Programs >
Accessories > Run > type MSCONFIG > Tools (tab) > scroll down > select
"Disable UAP" > click "Launch" > close "Command Prompt" > restart system for
changes to take effect.

Why are you replying as well? It'll have nothing to do with the firewall as
it's a installer - the application will need to be configured with the
firewall, and I've just given him a link to what you've just said with the
UAC.

Now I think it's you who's trying to reply to every post for the hell of it.

I got it to install fine with UAC on. But when entering my hotmail address
for logging in it won't log in at all.

I think you should consider your motives as well - what have I got to gain
out of it? Why on Earth would I set up a dedicated knowledge base website if
I didn't care about helping people out?

Ok guys, come on now, :)

Ok, seriously. Do you use the hotmail account to log into the messenger live
thing or what?
Since it would not log me in I tried to uninstall it, but it won't let me.
It just froze entirely. I ran the uninstaller and it did do something, but
then the progress bar just stopped going forward from halfway or something.
Then it just didn't do anything else anymore at all and I had to end task on
the thing.

Yeh - well you have to remember it's not just a Hotmail account. Your email
address that you use to sign into Hotmail or any other MSN service is a
Passport/Windows Live ID. Using that address, can sign you into all the
Passport/Windows Live ID services and applications...

.... it's just whether you're allowed to sign into them or not :oP

I installed it with UAP on, but I ran it as administrator and it
installed with no problems, I could then log in fine and chat with
people as normal.

Ok guys, now get this. MSN live or 7.5 will not connect ever at all no
matter what. Trillian will. I wanted to see if Trillian would work since
nothing from MS will. So I downloaded Trillian basic the free one. I said I
only want to use msn so it only downloaded that. I signed in with my hotmail
account and it connected finally eventually. It even does a little pop up by
the sys tray clock that says my hotmail has new spam!! I never use hotmail
for email as all it is is spam. I signed up for hotmail, never used it,
opted out of everything and all i get in it is spam. sex spam, etc etc and i
never used it nor did i subscribe to any microsoft or third party letters
etc. The only thing I use the account for is messenger.

Anyone got any ideas why nothing MS works, but Trillian did?
