Hi,

I've got a HP Pavilion a110.uk PC, which comes with a CD-RW (GCE-8400B).
The jumper on the back of this device is set to Csel.

I bought a DVD-RW and am trying to install it. I was advised to set both
jumpers to Csel.

Anyway, in Device Manager, there are 2 devices listed - the CD-RW and the
DVD-RW yet in My Computer they are both listed as CD Drive E: and CD Drive
F:

I can't seem to copy files onto a blank CD in either drive, and it's really
starting to confuse me now.

I've tried EVERY combination of jumper setting (M & S, S & M (oo-er!), C &
S, C & M...and so on), but nothing seems to work. Is this an XP problem?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Nath.

Now I don't know whether it still applies (as I've never tried it) but in
the olden days, you couldn't have more than one burner in a system. Does
either work properly if the other is removed?

Hi Epona, and thanks for getting back to me.

Yes, the drive is a DVD-RW / CD-RW combo, and I already have a CD-RW drive
in the machine...do you think that's what has caused the problems?

Seems odd that you can't have 2 CD-RW drives on one machine?

Any other advice would be greatly appreciated.
Nath.

I have a Pioneer DVD-RW and a Sony CD-RW coexisting on Windows XP home and
have no problems with either. It could be a software conflict. When I
installed Easy CD Creator Platinum I had to download a WinXP patch. Before
downloading it, my computer wouldn't recognize either drive. With the patch
I run both burners flawlessly.
