Hi,

My name's Arnaldo and I'm from Brazil (so please forgive me for the poor
english). We use Windows 2000 Server (SP4) with SQL Server 2000 (no SP).
We've been facing a problem for some time now: on January 28th, our system
stopped responding for some reason. When we passed the mouse over the SQL
Server tray icon, the tooltip text was reporting a as different name (the
name of another server that we have here). Just to illustrate, imagine
server1 reporting it's server2...
We've restarted the server and it became normal again. Then, on March 11th
and April 5th again, the system hung, but the tray icon was reporting the
name ok.
For information, on January 28th, we've installed two patches MS03-039 and
MS04-011;
In the COM+.log file in WINNT directory, it's reporting Event ID 5379 and
Event ID 4097;
In the Eventsystem.log file, it's reporting Event ID 4100;
In the SQL Server Log, it's reporting "LogEvent: Failed to report the
current event. Operating system error = 31(A device attached to the system
is not functioning.)".

Has anyone had any error similar to this? Any help is appreciated.

Tks in advance,

Arnaldo Fuziy.

Just as information, messages 1) and 2) are being reported in both servers;
message 3) is being reported only in the main server...
