Hi All,

Thank you for your help in advance. I am in this post.

I have an critical issue here. I have a W2K server on a Dell server. It is a
new box, with SP3 loaded (SP 4 is not loaded yet), IE 6 installed, and all
network configurations/connectivities are ok.

However, the server could not do any updates thru the following:

1.) Could not do updates thru Automatic Update: Although I have scheduled a
task for this, it never runs or starts!
2.) If I use browser to go to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com or use
"Windows Updates" on the Start menu, the browser will just keep running, and
the globe will keep spinning and spinning. Up to 1 hour, 2 hour, non-stop.
And it jsut can't display the page. (believe me, my network setting,
including DNS, are all correctly configured).
3.) I have reinstalled IE 6. But the problem still exists.

Could you mind if you have share with me if you have similar experience?

Thank you very much!!

Have you tried checking your internet options for security and privacy. If
they are set where cookies is not enabled some sites won't let you in.
Right click your I.E. icon, choose properties and under the privacy tab
check to make sure it is at medium-high, and security, try internet first
and tighten it up afterward.
Try other sites, when you are online to make sure everything works okay,
like www.abc.com or www.microsoft.com and go to www.google.com and you can
search for a site to test the speed of your connection, like
http://bandwidthplace.com/speedtest/
Also, sometimes, some sites are clogged and you should have a time-out timer
that comes up after say 20 seconds.

good luck,
don

Hi DCDON, I appreciate your response. However, I have taken your words but
still does not work. Then I try to find out if it is the network problem
(but the server has the same network settings as the others while the others
working fine)

Before doing anything, if I go to "windows updates", the web browser is just
blank and keep "loading". Instead, I could just type in the IP address and
go straightly to the page.

Now I added an external dns, and it goes little bit further. It can browse
up the scan page and provide the update results. However, no matter which
"update" i try to select (by pressing the INstall Now button), It will just
go "freezing". ANd I need to hit to end the task.

I also join the server to domain, and break down the loadbalancing network
team but everything stayed the same.

I compared its setting to other servers, all they have the same network
attributes... what else should I check?

Another issue is that: True that I cannot access some sites, such as
networksolutions.com. It never display the page, and the globe keeps
spinning.

what can I do next? very tough one...

By the way, for short term solutions, ther than doing Windows Updates do you
think Technet CD can provide the fixes for W2K?

thanks a ton
