Problem in Capturing Video using IEEE1394

Hi,
I am using my Compaq laptop (1.4 GHz Centrino, 512MB RAM) running XP
Prof(SP2), to capture video from my Sony DCRHC40 camcorder. I am using a IEEE
firewire cable (4Pin - 6Pin) to connect my laptop to the camcorder. There are
no problems in connecting or accessing the device. However, the video
captured using WMM2.1, runs at 4 times the speed of the original video.
This problem occurs only when using Firewire. When using USB cable, it works
fine, but the picture quality is not good.
The same camcorder works well when connected to another laptop of the same
config using the same firewire cable and CardBus.

Request you to pls propose a solution for this problem.

Thanks

Try this first

1) Download the full version of DirectX Ver 9.0c, Media Player 9 (10 if you
prefer), and Service Pack 2(SP2).

2) Reboot you computer and Install DirectX

3) Reboot again and install Windows Media Player

4) Reboot yet again and install Service Pack 2

5) Reboot one more time
It is very important that you only download the full versions of these
programs
and that you DO NOT attempt an install over the internet.

From John Kelly. Although I'd suggest leaving out the SP2 bit.

Hi Graham,

Thanks for the prompt reply. I followed all the steps you mentioned. But it
does not help.
Is there anything to do with Legacy Video Capture Devices (present in
hardware tab of "Sound and Audio Devices").

Where are you plugging in the camcorder? To a firewire port that is built in
or a seperate pci card? On the front of the pc or rear?

I'm wondering if you are hitting a problem with a third party codec (in
particular, iviaudio.ax).

Typically, users who have this filter installed will complain that their
AVIs and MPGS playback "faster than normal" from the timeline, or that their
AVI and MPG files sound like "chipmunks". WMV files are typically
unaffected. Playback from the collection is also usually unaffected.

If this sounds like your symptoms, and if you have MM2.1 installed, you can
go look at the following for a workaround:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/moviemaker/21/faq.mspx

(You want the question "Why is the audio distorted, and playing much faster
than normal?")

Best Wishes!

Hi Kristen/Graham,
Thanks a lot for the suggestions. I tried every possible thing, but in vain.
Finally got a new 4Pin-4Pin cable with which I could connect directly to my
laptop instead of using a PC Card. It is working fine now. I guess it was a
problem with the driver of the PC Card.

Really appreciate your prompt replies.

Thanks,
Anish
