problem importing contacts

I'm having a problem importing a .pst file into contacts
on outlook 2000

When I do a direct import, it gets almost to the end of
the file and gives me the following error: "some items
could not be copied. they were either moved or deleted,
or access was denied." It looks like it imports some but
not all of the contacts. It also does not tell you how
many records there are (shows up as 0)

Now, If I bring it in as a personal folder, it gives all
1057 contacts, however, if I try to move them to the main
contact folder, once again the same error.

This .pst file comes from a vp that was recently hired and
wants to import all his old contacts into his new account
(why does this always happen to vp's, making it a
priority...oh well, such is life)

I have the suspicion there is something wrong with the pst
file itself... any ideas?

Thanks for the help

Try running the Inbox Repair Tool against the VP's .PST to see if it
finds any errors. Search your drive for a file called scanpst.exe and
run it.

Jocelyn:

I tried that, no errors came up, now, if the version of
Outlook he had was newer than the one here, could it give
that error?

It's doubtful, judging from the information you have provided -- unless
perhaps the VP was using the beta of Outlook 2003 (which I don't know
much about, yet). Is the contacts folder you're trying to move the
items into also in a .PST file? If so, have you tried running
scanpst.exe on that file also?
