Problem HP Scanjet 3400c

I reinstalled XP Home and have thise problem.
Under no circumstances I get the scanner installed.
Get the message after installing: "scanner can not be initialised"

Searched of course for drivers and spend half an hour on the phone with the
HP helpdesk.

Somenone an idea?

More info needed.........

Did it work correctly before your reinstallation?
Did you remember to install the motherboard chipset drivers after the
reinstallation?
Do other USB devices work correctly?
How many other USB devices do you have connected and what are they?
Did you read the page on "Scanner cannot be initialized" at HP and follow
its instructions:

When you reinstalled XP HE, did you also install IEv7? If so, remove IEv7,
which will revert to IEv6, and try again. IEv7 cripples the HP Director that
is used to run HP scanners; not sure if it also breaks scanner init, but
it is easy to test.

Hi,I've just resurrected my HP3400C scanner and its running fine with the complete software/driver download from here http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=61835&os=228&lang=en

Make sure you ONLY plug the scanner in AFTER you've installed the software !
