Problem getting files into Moviemaker

I've transferred some files from the sony hard-drive type camcorder, but
cannot import the files into Moviemaker. the files are in mpg format; I get
an error message "M2U00200.MPG cannot be imported because the codec required
to play the file is not installed on your computer. If you have already tried
to download and install the codec, close and restart Windows Movie Maker, and
then try to import the file again." I tried again unsuccessfully. I then
downloaded WME version 9 and tried converting to windows media file. The
conversion failed; there were 2 errors that were related to audio codec
0xC00D0BC3. REally need to get these files into WMM; any help would be
apprecieated. Thanks!
