I actually wasn't using an address book to send the fax.
The reason I'm setting the fax up right now is to send
and receive documents out of state following the death of
a relative. These will be once or twice sends and
receives that aren't included in any address book. So,
what I did was bring up the send fax wizard, enter the
name to send the fax to, and below it is the location in
dark gray stating United States 1. I couldn't change it
if I wanted to. Next is the fax # the fax is going to.
The area code box is dark as well. When I click on it to
try and enter an area code it doesn't allow me to do
that. Next to it is a white area in the place where a
phone # can be entered and that's available to me to be
able to enter a #. So, what I'm trying to find out is why
the areas that are grayed out, are. And, what I need to
do to use the fax program in the manner I'd like to use
it in? Right now, I've got a seperate printer and
scanner. I configured the fax console to print to my
printer. I can scan the documents I want to fax back to
them and import them as a file to fax via the fax
console, correct? I have a modem and phone line attached
to my computer which I've configured as the fax modem.
All that makes logical sense to me as something which
will allow me to do what I need to do. Hopefully, I'm
correct in thinking that. Am I? One other thing. If my
answering machine is set to pick up after two rings, can
I set the fax to receive on three rings and does it
listen for incoming faxes at that setting? Thank you very
much.

Which address book are you using?
Elaborate on "doesn't allow me to enter an area code..."
What exactly are you doing and what happens when you try?

I've just added the fax console portion of XP Pro. When I
bring up the send fax info window the program isn't
allowing me to enter an area code which is different from
the one the computer is using. Why is that and how do I
resolve this issue so I can send faxes to phones with
area codes other than my own?
