problem during start up and shutdown

when i start the computer it starts trying to install a program called
status but cannot complete due to a file being missing called status.msi. It
keeps trying to install this over and over even if you cancel the
installation. it will not let you shutdown the computer and you eventually
have to just turn off the computer. This is really annoying. any and all
help would be appreciated. Thank you

Download and install Autoruns from MS from here:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/utilities/Autoruns.mspx

Run if to see if you can identify where it's starting from and stop it.
Also do a thorough scan for malware.
