Problem customizing inactive icons

Whenever I try to customize when to show certain icons that show up by the
clock, after I make the changes when I want the icons to show and I reboot my
computer the changes I make (after clicking apply/ok) revert back to the way
they were before I changed them. Can you please tell me what the problem
might be and how to correct it?
 
Inactive Icons located down by your clock will automatically become hidden
by windows after 6-72 hours of inactive use ... it's automatic ... Enjoy!

Thanks for the prompt reply, but what I am trying to do is make then always
hidden even when I first log on.
