Hi..

In WinXP Pro, when I try to copy or import more than just a few slides
from another presentation I get the message "there was a problem
accessing"

This was never a problem doing this on my older Win2000 Pro system.

Any idea(s) what the problem is??

Many thanks

Does it say what there was a problem accessing?

Are you working on PPT files from your harddrive or from a server?

Was Win2000 upgraded to WinXP, or is the WinXP a totally new install?

Have you tried running a Detect and Repair in PPT? Maybe also try the
stuff at http://www.rdpslides.com/pptfaq/FAQ00034.htm

Thanks for the response.

No -- nothing other than what I reported abvove

Hard drive

New install; new computer

Thanks; will try both. Didn't see anything at the website of immediate
help, however.

Nuts. I was hoping the error message would give us a few clues. :-)
Hard drive

New install; new computer

Ok, that shoots those theories. I thought maybe it was a path issue.

Have you also done a virus scan on your computer with updated virus DAT
files? I think it was Blaster that really screwed up copy/paste.

You might, in addition to the things at that link above, try changing
your hardware acceleration. http://www.rdpslides.com/pptfaq/FAQ00129.htm
for instrux.

As for the previous suggestion, the printer driver and TEMP files would
definitely be the places I'd start.

Oh, I wonder if this might be relevant, too?
http://www.rdpslides.com/pptfaq/FAQ00236.htm I know your error message
isn't the same, but I wonder if those service packs (as described at the
bottom of that page) could be affecting things in this manner. You may
not get the actual "server application" error because you're actually
copying slides -- but if those slides have graphs or Org Charts on them,
I can see how this could happen.

Finally, have you tried rebooting?

Thanks again. It seems to be definitely a question of how much working
memory is allocated to PPoint. Rebooting always frees up enough memory
to allow moving more slides -- for a while. But with 512MB meg of
memory I wouldn't think this would be a problem; never happened with my
256MB Win2KPro machine.
