Problem Connecting to Outgoing SMTP Server

Hi

I'm using Outlook 2002 on Windows XP. For some strange reason all of a sudden I can't send any E-mail. I keep getting the message that "Outlook is unable to connect to your outgoing SMTP server." I haven't changed any of my Outlook settings. Perhaps somehow something has been changed in Outlook outside of my intention to do so. But it's affecting multiple E-mail addresses on three different domains. My incoming mail is getting through to me OK, though

Any ideas on what I cn do to correct the problem would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

Jim

Have you recently installed a firewall or anti-virus program? These may be
responsible for blocking port 25 (used to connect to SMTP servers).

The one change that's happened is I'm using a dial-up connection while I'm waiting for my DSL to be activated since I moved over the weekend. I was able to send E-mail fine the first day on the dial-up connection then on the second day I wasn't able to send E-mail at all

I figured it out. I had to change my outgoing SMTP server to the ones that the dial-up service utilizes. For some reason their system won't recognize the SMTP servers for my domains anymore even though they worked fine yesterday

I'm surprised that they worked the previous day. Most ISPs now block access
to any SMTP servers but their own in a (IMHO) misguided effort to reduce
spam. As you've found, this makes life harder for end-users. And I don't
know about you, but I haven't seen any reduction in spam...
