I have a few PC's, bound to the domain, and when they try
to connect to network shares they get an error: there are
no logon servers available to service your request. MAPI
email through outlook does work though. Also, if i log on
to the PC as a local (non-domain) user, i can connect to
the shares using the domain\username method when it
prompts me to. Looking at the firewall logs, there is
nothing getting blocked between the remote machine and the
file server or any of the DC's.

Hey Chris,
What are the client OS's being used the type of VPN software. Is it MS
DUN or 3rd Party? If MS DUN then use the "Logon using Dial Up network
connection". This ensures the user is not logged on the system using
cached credentials and the system account(on NT based systems) also logs on
the domain giving then full Domain Authentication and functionality.

Hope this Helps!

Alan,

we're using win 2k pro clients connecting with checkpoint
securemote 4.51 (latest version). we're not using log on
with DUN, but they are using the cached login. is there
any way to "log in" to the domain with 3rd party VPN
software?

Hi Chris,
Only if SecureRemote built this into their dial up. Some will have the
ability log the system account in, although from your explanation this does
not appear to be happening. The Vendor also have the ability to allow
MSGINA to access the connection. If you don't get a choice of choosing the
Secure Remote Dial up connection when you choose the Option at the
CTR+ALT+Del then the ability is not in the software.

There is no other Microsoft Solution for this. This is the only way to
accomplish this particular goal from a Microsoft standpoint.

One note, is if you could teach your users to map the drive using the
Different Username option, this should work.

Thank you,
