Hi y'all

I'm a "new user to PCs" so go easy on me!

I have a problem that I'm hoping someone here can help me with. I trying to compare two documents in Word 2000. I've done everything according to the steps in the help wizard but when word is finished comparing the documents it closes them both immediately without showing changes!

Any ideas??

Hi Muckshifter

Thanks for this but I've followed these steps to compare the docs but it still keeps closing them. I get a message telling me that Word is comparing the documents but when it's done it closes both of them without tracking any changes (and I know there are differences between the two). Aaaaaahhhhh!

Sorry don't use Word so I can't check ... try this, it does it a slightly different way, BUT make a back-up of the original by using another name.

Word allows you to compare two versions of the same document and highlights differences. This is what you do:

  1. start Word and open one of the two versions of the document e.g. Fire-regs.doc.click
  2. 'Tools' menu then 'Compare and Merge Documents' option - see dialog.locate
  3. and click on the other version of the document e.g. Fire-regs (username v1).doc.click
  4. on the 'Compare' button - see document open with 'marks' showing the differences.use
  5. the buttons on the 'Reviewing' toolbar to accept or reject changes.save
  6. the resulting 'unified document' and delete the second version.
:)
