Windows98 allowed me to choose something called "Direct CD 2" ( possibly from
a program named "Easy CD Creator3" ) for writing on my blank CDs. Hundreds
of my CDs, each of which contains about 330 photos (about 650MB), are
formatted in this manner. Prior to exiting CD Drive (E), I had the choice of
leaving the CD in the Direct CD format (which I did), or of re-formatting the
disc so it would be readable in any CD-ROM drive (which I didn't do). Here's
the problem: I upgraded yesterday to WindowsXP, sadly to find that this
upgrade doesn"t support Direct CD 2. Any CD formatted with the Direct CD
option now is treated by WindowsXP as a blank, unreadable disk when inserted
in CD Drive(E). The Microsoft phone consultant advised me to buy an upgrade
to Direct CD 2 that is compatible with windows XP. Unfortunately, so far
this has been a wild goose chase. Roxio, for example, has no reference to
Direct CD 2 on its website. The folks at the local CompUSA were unable to
offer any feasible solution. I would very much appreciate any help from this
website. Hope my post helps others to avoid this mess. Thanks, Peter
