I have a Windows 2000 client (notebook) with dual NICs -- the first NIC is
an Ethernet link and the second one is an 802.x wireless link.
When the notebook is docked on our corporate LAN, the ethernet NIC is
functional and the wireless NIC is shown as disconnected (red cross on the
systray icon). In this configuration, the my web browser (IExplorer) can
connect to web sites via the corporate LAN without problem.
But when the notebook is at home, the ethernet NIC is shown as disconnected,
and the wireless NIC is functional. And in this configuration, IE is NOT
able to connect to web pages, but all other network services, like DHCP,
file sharing and printing, work fine. => The only problem is with IE where
I cannot get the browser to download web pages.
When I enter a web url into the browser e.g. www.microsoft.com it seems that
IE successfully completes the DNS lookup (via the wireless LAN) since the IE
status bar displays the message "Loading [dotted IP address]". But the page
never loads, and browser eventually times out with an "unable to load page"
message.
It looks as though the IE the DNS lookup is going via the wireless NIC, but
perhaps IE is trying to use the disconnected ethernet NIC to download the
actual page??
I have tried all the variations, on the IE LAN settings, and am unable to
solve the problem (e.g. it is not a proxy server problem).
=> I would very much appreciate it, if someone could help me with this.
Regards,
