Problem Booting after Relocating XP Pro Hard Drive

I would like to swap the hard drives between two of my
desktop systems. Both are PC-Compatible P4 desktops with
1G of RAM, and both boot drives are running XP
Professional.

However, neither drive will reboot in the other PC. Just
when the boot process switches to the graphics mode, there
is a quick unreadable message, and the boot process
restarts. In one case I also tried booting with all the
associated peipheral cards installed, with the same
failure.

I also tried running the XP Install Disk's "Repair"
utility, but this also dies with a sudden reboot.

Unless your two systems have very similar hardware (same motherboards,
etc.), this isn't likely to work. You would need to perform a new
installation.
