I have a wired home network with three XP desktops and one Vista
laptop. One of the desktops is the main one. I can't get the main
one and the laptop to see each other properly. If I go to Network it
is there. If I click on the computer it brings up its folders. OK so
far. But with this pair of computers if I try to open a folder it
says ".... not accessible.. Might not have permission.... " and then
"Not enough server storage to process this command".

Both drives have share on. I tried temporarily turning off the
firewall, that didn't help. The Windows diagnostics doesn't find a
problem with the network. All other combinations can see each other.

How can I try to fix this problem?

You may want to do modify the registry. This search result may help.

OK, IRPStackSize is not there, but I don't know how to "add value".
How is that done?

Also, on the next step it says to remove unnecessary entries from
NullSessionPipes. It has "netlogon lsarpc samr browser" - are any of
these unnecessary?

Setting IRPStackSize (set it to 15 (decimal)):

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/285089

NullSessionPipes:

As long as the bytes of the entries are in sum < 32 kb there's no problem.

Setting IRPStackSize (set it to 15 (decimal)):

I added that and set it to 15, and it solved the immediate problem of
software on the laptop not being able to access data on the HD of the
desktop. It still gives a message when I try to explore the desktop
HD from the laptop, but it changed somewhat:

comoutername is not accessible....
Not enough Server Storage...

I bumped it up to 20, rebooted, no change. Same thing for 25 and 30,
rebooting each time.

Last ideas:

1. Look if in
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SessionManager\Memory
Management
PagedPoolSize is set to 0

If not, try that.

2. If Norton Antivirus installed disable it temporarily and try then
