I thought I had this fixed. The built in firewire connection on my A7V-333
motherboard shows up in device manager with an yellow exclamation point and
a "this device cannot start (code 10) error." Every once in a while when I
start the computer the error will not be there. But 9 times out of 10 it is.
Any help appreciated.

Got the same mainboard exactly, mine is fine. My mainboard runs 6 x hdd 1 x
cdrw 1 x dvd and all the USB's plus 2 x more usb hubs and the firewire, sio
it can be seen that I am using an awful lot of resource.

It ain't a resource conflict is it (IRQ)? I assume you've tried deleting the
device and allowing it to re-install itself via plug and play?

Any cards installed? Have you tried removing them? Any onboard stuff (sound?
Lan?) ? What if you disable them in the BIOS?

There are no cards installed except my AGP ATI video card. Sound and Lan are
built into the motherboard. If I disable LAN I will lose my network
connections. I have not tried to disable the on-board sound . I'm not sure
if you can in the BIOS.

Thanks,
Bob
