Jeff

I seem to be having problems with 2 patches KB824141 and
KB826939 when I install either of these patches on my
Toshiba Laptop. After I reboot the system I see some
strange behaviour, my task bar is black, start menu is
black, programs menu is black. even the blue border on
any open window is black and I can't see the any of the
buttons (minimise and close). If I uninstall the patch
and reboot everything is fine again. Every time I try
these 2 patches I get the same results.

Any ideas on what is happening would be helpfull.

Thanks in advance
Jeff

I had a similar experience with KB824141 when it failed to sucessfully
install. When I checked for updates, the following critical updates
were listed KB824141, KB823182, KB825119 and KB828035. I downloaded
all 4 for install but KB824141 failed to install. Then the wierdness
started. First symptom was IE warning it had experienced a problem and
had to shut down. Next, using classic desktop by the way, when I tried
to scroll up past the search area on the start menue I would get
Windows Explorer had experienced a problem and had to shut down so I
could not get to windows update to try another download to install
KB822141. IE would launch to my home page, but trying to go anywhere
else, by any means, would cause the failure. Outlook Express worked
fine but some other programs started to hang and malfunction (i.e.
Photoshop 7 and WinRAR). Tried uninstalling anything I had installed
in the past week to include removing a RAM DIMM, but no joy. Rolled
the system back a week but nothing good there either. Grasping for
straws before doing an uninstall of IE 6, I switched out of the
classic start up menu and was able to access the MS update site via
the start menue and sucsusfully download and install KB824141 and the
problems went away. All this makes absolutely no sense to me, but
maybe someone out their has a clue as to what the actual problem was.
Hope this helps someone else.
