Problem adding site on my PC to Security Zone

I have a FrontPage website on my PC that I use as an active desktop.
Everytime I open it or move to a new page I get the message at the top of the
window about protecting me from Active X, etc. Don't mind this a bit when
I'm on the internet and appreciate the protection. However, it's become a
major annoyance on my PC. The instructions suggested adding the site to a
Trusted Zone. Make sense only when I attempt to do that, this is what
happens.

I enter
c:\my documents\username\my documents\foldername\website folder name\

and I get the error message:

You have entered an invalid wildcard sequence:
Examples of valid patterns:
*://*.microsoft.com
http://*.microsoft.co.jp
ftp://157.54.23.41/
file:\\localsrv\share
*://157.54.100-200.*
Examples of invalid patterns:
http://microsoft.*.com
ftp://*

I tried selecting a name from a drop down list that appeared after entering
the letter c:

file:///C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/Ken/My%20Documents/2a-active%20webs/desktools/

Then searched Google and came up with the following in Microsoft Support:

CAUSE
This behavior occurs because top-level domains are not supported in the site
list for security zones. An entry with a two-letter top-level and two-letter
second-level domain name is interpreted as a top-level domain (for example,
..co.uk or .co.jp). When you use Internet Explorer 5 and later you can enter
these types of wildcard sequences into the site list for a zone, but sites
that are part of the specified domains are not interpreted as being in the
selected security zone. When you use Internet Explorer 6, you cannot enter
such domains into the site list for any security zone.
WORKAROUND
WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious
problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft
cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry
Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

To remove the invalid entries from the site list for a zone in Internet
Explorer 5 and later, delete the invalid entries in the registry. The entries
are listed under the following registry keys:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet
Settings\ZoneMap\Domains

-and-

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet
Settings\ZoneMap\Domains

Just for grins I went to the Registry and didn't have a clue about what to
remove and I'm not real keen on messing with it anyway.

All constructive suggestions will be entertained.

Hi,
XP SP2? I think you're up against the Local Machine Zone Lockdown.
There are three workarounds for this:
1. Rename each .HTM file to .HTA. HTA files aren't as restricted.
2. Give each page the "Mark of the Web"
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/workshop/author/dhtml/overview/motw.asp
3. Internet Options> Advanced> Security> check "Allow active content to run
in files on My Computer ."
You will, of course, be giving up some of the enhanced security of the XP
SP2 update.

Hope this helps,

Don,
Thanks. I've made copies of the information you referenced and will check
it out.
