Dan

Need to know which newsgroup to go to for this problem.
No matter what I do, I cannot get an XP PC to communicate
with my LAN. I have installed Network Wizard many times
and it still will not get there.

There seems to be problems in the registry. Had an issue
where Outlook Express would not save passwords and had to
enter the registry and correct a permissions problem.

When I use Explorer to find the PC in question on the
existing network PCs, the PC is found, but will not show
the shared devices. When looking for the known working
PCs on the PC in question, I get "Workgroup is not
accessible. You might not have permission to use this
network resource. etc... The list of servers is not
currently available".

Thanks for any help. I have connected many PCs to my
router in this fashion and have never had this problem.

Please help...

1) Make sure the workgroup name matches that of the other computers on the
network.

2) If disabled, enable the Guest account. XP Home uses this account to
authenticate network users.

Hi Dan,

1) Enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP in all the computers in the workgroup.
2) Start the computer browser service
3) Disable the Internet Connection Firewall for the NIC card. ICF needs to
be enabled only for the internet connection source.

Enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP in all the computers in the workgroup:
Open the Network Connections folder.
Right click the local area network connection and click Properties.
Double click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP).
Click Advanced.
Click WINS.
Click the Enable NetBIOS Over TCP/IP button.

On Windows 95/98/Me: (if you have 9x machines on the workgroup)

Click Start | Settings | Control Panel | Network.
Double click the TCP/IP->adapter entry for the local area network.
Click NetBIOS.
The I want to enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP box is normally checked and
grayed out. If it's un-checked, click the box to put in a check mark.

Start the computer browser service:
Click Start | Run | Services.msc

To disable ICF, click Start | Run | ncpa.cpl. Right-click the LAN properties
Advanced.
