Problem adding new form to existing project

I get this message box when trying to add another form to an existing
project.
"Automation server can't create object" The new form is subsequently not
added to the project.

I've tried things like clearing all 'read-only' flags on the project files.
Do I need to reinstall/repair VS.net 2003?

Nope. Doing a repair install didn't help. I still get the same error.

More info:
I get this same error when trying to use the Office Update web page. That
little yellow bang icon shows up in the lower left hand corner of the
browser's status bar.
The error:

Seeing this same error here implies that my problem is off-topic. However,
