We are running a small network of macs and pcs. All computers are on the same
subnet mask and have the same gateway ip address. On computer A we are
running Vista. I have ports 995, 137, 138, & 139 open. On computer B, we are
running XP home with no firewall protection. The Vista can access and edit
the XP but the XP computer can see the Vista but can not edit it. When I try
to make a new folder in the public folder from the XP it tells me that I am
unable to create the folder 'New Folder' Access is denied. Please tell me
somewhere else I can check.

Sounds like permission issues. Have you assign permission under security
tab? or this link may help. Please post back with the result.

I was able to fix the public folder using your advice. Thank you. I have a
second drive on the Vista computer that the XP cannot access. Drive Q:\ is
shared. On the share permissions tab, Everyone has full control. On the
Security Tab it says "Allow Authenticated Users, System, Adminstrators and
Users Full Control. It does not have "Everyone" on the list. If I try to add
a new Group or user name, it won't let me change the location. It is set to
the name of the Vista Computer. Password Protection is not on.

You may want to check the ownership. Or this post may help. Please post back
with the result.
