I work in local government. On my computer using internet explorer version 6
and Windows XP I can't access our website. On some other computers in the
same network using the same versions of Windows & Explorer the website can be
accessed. There are no other sites I know of which I have difficulty
accessing on the internet. The problem has been every time I try not one
isolated incident. There are others in the organisation who also can't access
the site. On my computer there are no sites listed in the content advisor
(internet options via control panel) as either approved or disapproved. Any
suggestions as to what may be preventing access or what additional
information may be required to solve the problem?

If you ever get an answer to this... please ... please post it... I have
have this problem since SP2 install... no solutions... I have a bout 7
sites that for no reason I can not access (times out). Other computers on
the same network can access them just fine. Did everything this newsgroup
suggests to no avail..

Hi cycleboy :-)

Try the following and see if it helps:

Cannot access just one site

Cannot browse certain websites
http://www.dslreports.com/faq/10082

or..

Edit HOSTS File:

Go to the following and open with Notepad,
C:\WINDOWS\hosts (the one with no extension (not the .SAM one)
then delete any listing reference for the site you are trying to open.
Then Save and close.

also...Check the information here:

http://inetexplorer.mvps.org/answers.htm#dnsAdvice

Also..... try adding the site to your Trusted Zone.

Hope this helps :-)

I can add dslreports to the number of sites that I can not access... bottom
bar says connecting to www.dslreports.com........ then it sits there and
times out... really is annoying...

I just now tried the site to see how it would work on my end. Here is what
I got after several minutes:

"The page cannot be displayed
The page you are looking for is currently unavailable. The Web site might be
experiencing technical difficulties, or you may need to adjust your browser
settings."

I have Windows XP Pro with SP2, and fully updated and patched. I don't think
it is a problem with IE. It may be something going on with the site. :-)

Hope this helps :-)

Hi guys, thanks for the responses. Due to the number of things to try I'm
still working my way through but one thing I've been able to narrow down is
that it is something to do with my network logon as I can't access the
webpage on computers where others can and conversely others can access it
with their logon on my computer.

Have you tried creating a new User account/profile? It may be that a
setting has gotten changed or somehow corrupted. You can backup everything
for your current logon, then rename it (just add_OLD at the end) and create
a new one. If nothing is changed and the problem is still there, then you
can just delete the new one and rename the old one back to the original
name. At least that way you will know if it is your logon or something
else.

Hope this helps :-)

I have found that by going to Internet Options, 'Connections' tab and 'Lan
Settings' and duplicating the proxy server settings from a machine that could
access the shire homepage that I can now access the page. (My proxy server
settings were previously blank.) Those who have all machines not able to
access a specific page may have the proxy server settings blank on all
machines.
