Problem accessing network/internet

Can anyone help with the following problem:
I have a small network (3 XP Pro machines / Router /
Cable modem) - everything works fine.
I then added one XP HOME machine. This machine cannot
access Anything (rest of the network, or the internet).
ipconfig values appear "kosher" but I cannot even ping
the default gateway. The physical cable connection seems
fine (I connected my laptop to the same cable and had no
problems)
There must be "some" sort of connection: when I
disconnect the cable, a little bubble comes up showing
it's disconnected. When I plug the cable back in, it has
lost the 'connection-specific DNS suffix' and
the 'Default Gateway' and the other values keep reverting
to some invalid values. Attempting a Repair on the
connection results in an error message indicating that
the IP address could not be renewed. Dell and Shaw were
unable to help. Any ideas?

Removed "Networking Services" and " Network File and
Print Services" via control Panel. Rebooted. Re-installed
both. Rebooted. Re-ran the internet connection wizzard.
ipconfig now - again- shows the correct values but I
still cannot ping my default gateway (or anything else

Try checking for a firewall on ALL of the PCs.

This could be either be:
- the Internet Conection Firewall selection in the
Advanced tab in one of the Network connections
OR
- a third party firewall on 1 of the PCs
OR
- both.

Hi Ancient!
Don't know whether this helps, but I had a similar
problem! I had the client PC unable to connect to the
Internet thriough the host, when the client was set up as
DHCP. I switched it it fixed IP and it still didn't work,
but I found this KB article
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-
us;309642&Product=winxp which when I set mine up this way
it all worked OK. I was missing the DNS stuff in the
advanced settings. Maybe this will help you, maybe not!
