When I type an address into IE, I first get a message
that: "InternetExplorer has encountered a problem and
needs to close." Then comes the error reporting bit and
then I'm back at the desktop.
Computer is a gateway 300S with XP home edition, using SBC
Yahoo DSL.
Would appreciate any ideas.
Thanks,
Hans

Check your system for "hijackware":

You *must* seek updates for Ad-Aware, Spybot, etc., before each and every
use, even "right out of the box". But even then, they can't catch
everything. HijackThis (http://www.merijn.org/files/hijackthis.zip; [new
URL] ) is the preferred tool to use these days. It will help to both
identify and remove any hijackware/spyware. **Post your files to

Also update your virus definitions and then run a full system scan. From
now on, do both daily.

Thanks Robear
I think I solved my problem. The culprit appears to have a
little software called Morpheus. After I got rid of it,
I've been able to use IE normally. I'll keep an eye on it
and see if there's anything else.
