probably a stupid question but...

When working with my images in Photoshop, would it cause problems if I
simply saved the final draft directly into the images folder on my local
web? I've been saving them into a folder and then importing them into
my web and I would love to skip this step if it's possible.

That approach does save time but I don't recommend it... as a safe
precaution.... Or at least save your .psd files in a separate folder not in
your site files. Put the .jpgs in your site files.

Matt,

Among other things, FrontPage is a content management application. (Not to
be confused with a web-based CMS.) It's able to manage your links and files
by keeping track of files as they are added, removed, or moved around, but
only when these actions are made from within the program.

I would recommend that you continue to import.

Matt,

You've not gotten responses that differ dramatically. There are certain
types of files that FrontPage must be aware of and also must keep track of
extra information (called "metadata"). These are files such as HTML files
with links, files that use FrontPage components, etc.

With that said, if you save an image file (such as a JPG or GIF) directly
into your images folder, it won't cause any problems. While FrontPage does
eventually need to know that these files are there, it will take care of
that automatically the next time your publish the site. If you're concerned
about it, however, you can simply run a Recalculate Hyperlinks from the
Tools menu. When you do that, FrontPage will automatically update the
metadata for you.

I keep the original file in editable format (don't know what that is for
Photoshop, for me it's .mic or .cdr) and then export/save the .jpg or .gif
directly to the appropriate folder in my local web. Have never had a problem
with that. Saves a lot of time!

I should have been a bit more specific in my original post... would just
be saving the jpeg or gif file in my web's images folder and not the
master from which they were made. And I would be doing this before I
open FrontPage. Looks like the response is mixed... but I think I'll
give it a try and simply recalculate the hyperlinks from time to time
(as Jim suggested) if there are difficulties.

Thanks everyone.

Okay, so I'm paranoid.

I'll tentatively withdraw my suggestion in deference to Jim's experience.

I, however, keep working files and originals in a second location outside of
my web and importing isn't a big burden for me.

I am not paranoid, but I always import my images that are to be use on pages
that are managed by FP and have never had any problems.

Now to save time, drag and drop the images into my current open web, I do
not use the File Menu | Import command, as it is one or two extra steps.
