Hi. A problem which may or may not be due to Excel:

I have some files, protected and with some sheets
hidden, which I am using to show graphs and data on the
internet. I want the viewer to be able to copy off the
data (so they are saved as .xls files. The problem is,
when I view the file in internet explorer, the chart sheet
in which the file is opened will have a different size
(the chart expands to fill the whole screen). The other
chart sheets are fine. ??? Also, #1 the chart toolbar
appears (don't want or need it) and #2 when I hit Back, a
prompt to save appears (unwanted, too). Any ideas? I know
this might not be Excel, but I figured I'd ask, I can find
no other info on troubleshooting sites.
Thanks in advance- John

I try to avoid opening any file in the browser other than web files, so
I don't know if this will help.

The fact that some chart sheets are fine but one isn't, indicates
something different about them. With the chart sheet active, go to Tools
menu > Options > Chart tab, and note the state of the Chart Sizes with
Window Frame box. If this isn't different, try File menu > Page Setup >
Chart tab. Compare the option within the Printed Chart Size box. One of
these two settings is likely to be the culprit.

By default, the Chart toolbar appears when a chart is active. When a
chart is active and you close the chart toolbar, it won't open when
charts are activated. This is a machine setting, so doing this with the
file prior to posting it won't help.

I don't know if this will work, but you might save the file as read
only, to avoid the save dialog when it is closed.

If you just want to make the data available with a couple charts, you
could export GIFs of the charts and put them into a web page, and have a
single worksheet available for download of data. That would be more
secure than Excel.

Hi Jon thanks for the help. I checked tools-menu-options-
chart tab (in IE), and sure enough there's the
Sizes with Window Frame box checked. problem is, it's in
gray and can't be unchecked. ??? Probably a question for
the IE forum. I had already tried saving as read-only, but
no go.

Do that in Excel, before posting the workbook to the Internet.
