I am getting this error when I try to install Pro Photo Shoot in Outlook 2007.

Component 2007 Microsoft Office Primary Interop Assemblies has failed to
install with the following error message:
"Fatal error during installation. "

The following components failed to install:
- 2007 Microsoft Office Primary Interop Assemblies

I have not found any other help on this.
Any help would be appreciated.

I did install on Outlook 2003 with 2003 version on different workstation and
it works great.

Try rerunning Outlook setup and installing the components for .NET support under both Outlook and Office.

Reinstalled all Office 2007 and still did not want to install Pro Photo Shoot
2007.
Any other ideas?

Is the .NET framework installed on the problem machine? If not, the PIAs won't install. Also, did you do a custom maintenance installation and specifically select .NET support components?

I am getting the same error. I have the .Net installed and updated.

Yes, and Microsoft is the maker.

And did you try installing the PIAs from Office/Outlook setup? Have you
asked the makers of the add-in about this?

Are you using WIndows Vista or XP? If you asked Microsoft about this, what did they say?

Also, did you install the correct version? There are separate downloads for Outlook 2003 and 2007. Installing the wrong version would be a likely cause of the error you're seeing.

I am using Office 2007, Vista Home Premium. Each is updated to current.
I downloaded the correct version and it still gives me the error. Rebooted.
Still Error.
Tried it on my laptop also. Still get the error. Each time is says the PIA
failed to install.

Microsoft has not responded and had, last night, no info in their knowledge
base.

And you've checked to see whether the PIAs are indeed already installed, right? You ran the installation program "as Administrator"?

The only other thing I can think of is that the add-in could have the wrong prerequisites. That's something only the developer would be able to fix.

How can I check to be certain?

Well, It boils down to this. PIA is part of the download of the package I am
trying to install.

The installation bombs every time.

"Component 2007 Microsoft Office Primary Interop Assemblies has failed to
install with the following error message:
"Fatal error during installation. "

The following components failed to install:
- 2007 Microsoft Office Primary Interop Assemblies

See the setup log file located at
'C:\Users\Rikk\AppData\Local\Temp\VSD6764.tmp\install.log' for more
information."

Is the error message. If I download the PIA direct from MS Downloads, it
refuses to install because it can't find this file C:\PIAREDIST.MSI and
tells me to see Setup.CHM which I cannot find.

Rikk

Check what? You can see whether the PIAs are installed by looking in the
C:\Windows\Assembly folder (or the equivalent location on your system).

To check the installation prerequisites, you'd have to use a tool like Orca
(see
http://xldennis.wordpress.com/2007/02/17/the-orca-tool-a-msi-creator-and-package-viewer/)
to poke around in the setup project.

Sue,

I looked at my control panel and it says the Office O7 Interop Assemblies is
installed.

Rikk

The add-in probably shouldn't be installing PIAs if they're already installed. My guess is that it's a messed up setup package -- or some Vista-related issue. In any case, the long-term solution probably lies with Microsoft fixing their installation package.

You might find other clues if you read the log file. Also, make sure the Office 2007 CD is available. Have you tried using Help | Office Diagnostics to repair Outlook?

Something you might try is removing .NET support with the Office CD and also checking Control Panel to see whether the Redistributable PIAs have already been installed. If so, remove them, too, and then see if that allows Pro Photo Shoot to satisfy its mistaken need to install PIAs.

Rick, I have uninstalled Office 2007 and reinstalled. Still no luck. Same
error as before. Works great in Outlook 2003 on my other machines. Let me
know if Microsoft responds with any fixes.

I have uninstalled Office 2007 and reinstalled. Still the same error. I have
been trying on Vista Ultimate Machine. Tried also on SP with Office 2007 Same
errors. Still working great on Outlook 2003 on XP.

That's not what I was suggesting. Try removing only the .NET support from Office. That would be the PIAs, and also any the PIA redistributable if that is installed.
