under c:\documents and settings\problematicaccount\

this user cannot UNDO the "make this folder private" options when choosing
properties. all the boxes are "greyed out" so its no longer able to make
these folders available on a networl anymore. also when i open properties of
this folder, i cannot change the "read only" status back, i uncheck the box
and click ok, but the next time, the properties are opened, its still
checked.

if there is more info needed, please let me know.

thank you in advance!

The user for the account needs to log on and change or
uncheck the box or someone with administrative rights or
using the administrator account.
In other words you need to log on with the password used
for that user or log on as the administrator with the
password that you supplied for that account initially.

i'm the only user though and the admin.

and i cant change it.

thats what has me baffled.

any idea's?

Ok, try this open my computer, tools, folder options,
view tab, see advanced settings, scroll down to use
simple file sharing and uncheck the box and click apply
(lower right) Now check out the properties for that
folder, if that works then go back and recheck the box as
recommended.
