I just purchased an external hard drive for large files and backup. I
noticed on XP there is no way to secure these files, so that others on my PC
can not view. Is there something I am missing, or do i have to get a third
party software? If so, any freeware or shareware recommended??

If you are running Windows XP Professional the you have missed EFS - the
encrypting file system.
See the Help and Support for more information.
