Prioritising files in a folder?

Relating to files in a folder, I would like a way of
permanently but reversibly marking or highlighting (and
if possible, prioritising) those of my choice.

Is there any way that I can do this now, or are there
plans to make this a Windows function in the near future?

Nothing built into Windows that does this. I'm not aware of any third
party apps that would handle this, but others may know of some and post
here.

I haven't heard anything like this rumored for the next version of
Windows, but that's still in development stage so who knows.
