Printserver not seen

I added a Win XP Pro system to a small peer network consisting of Win2K and
Win98 systems. The XP system sees all the other systems and shared
printers on the network but does not see the printserver. I don't have a
problem accessing the printserver from any other system but to the XP Pro
system it doesn't seem to exist. Are there any suggestions for getting it
to appear?

Thanks,

Some "printserver" boxes come with a piece of sotware that adds a new "Port
Monitor" (port type). Check the documentation for the printserver or the
manufacturer's web site.

Another possibility is to create a new "Standard TCP/IP port" that has the
printserver's IP address. You can create Standard TCP/IP ports via the Add
Printer Wizard or:
1. open Printers and Faxes
2. click File, Server Properties
3. select the Ports tab
4. click Add Port
5. select Standard TCP/IP port; click New Port...

If this doesn't help, what make and model of "printserver" do you have?

Hi Bruce,

Thanks for your reply.

I don't see anything like that.

This didn't work either. When I send a test page, I can see that it is
received by the printserver, i.e. the data lights blink, but it never gets
forwarded to the printer. I am using a LanReady CP830 which has three LPT
ports. Its driver reports itself as a D-link DFE-970 3P.

Perhaps even more significant, the printserver doesn't show up at all when
viewing My Network Places - even after searching for it by its name
(printserver1) and IP (192.168.1.100). I have no problem locating or
manipulating it from that machine using PSAdmin and PSUtil or the web
interface, however.
