PrintScreen key does not work

I have almost finished a homework assignment. The next instruction is to press the PrintScreen key to place a copy of the screen on the clipboard. This is called screen capture. I need to do it this way because the following instructions are to open WordPad, type my name on the screen, press enter, click edit, click paste, click print on the toolbar to get a hard copy of the screen. My PrintScreen button does not work. Can someone please tell me how to activate it or another was I can accomplish the above? Thank you very much!

The process as you outlined it is correct. Press the Printscreen key to
capture the window to the clipboard and then paste it into an app that will
accept graphics. WordPad should work for that as it works here for me.

Maybe you need to try a different keyboard????
 
When you attempt to paste, make sure your cursor is in the message text
area. Otherwise, as Harry has stated, you are doing the correct procedure.

Thanks so much to all of you! It turned out that I did have my screen pasted to the clipboard but did not know it. I was expecting the screen to pop up after pressing the printscreen key and was afraid to exit the window I was in to check the drives for the info. I had spent two hours entering. Now I know. I appreciate your time. Thank you!
