My printer works fine when printing from XP Home, and W98 (on various PC's
around the house, but has a problem when on the PC running XP Prof 2002 with
SP2 loaded (and up to date!) - problem as follows. When printer is powered
up, the first print works fine, any subsequent prints work fine too, so long
as they are spooled within about 2 minutes of previous print. any time after
that, the spooled print does not reach the printer (sitting in "power saver
mode"), and times out, giving no error codes, simply says, "document failed
to print". Have been to Canon website and have latest driver loaded.
Help ?????

Turn off/disable the "Powersaver mode" as it appears to not be intended
for "shared printer" use.

Is this printer on a network print server or hosted on one of the
computers? You might have a look at this site:

thanks for idea, but this does not resolve problem. Printer says "printing"
but times out and PC advises problem as per above. I have a feeling it is
something to do with BIOS and an interupt on the USB port. just weary of
'updating bios' thats all.

Is the USB port shutting off due to Power Management? Look in Device
Manager, and the USB and Properties, and Power Management, and uncheck
allow PC to turn off to savew power.

It appears the USB ports were shutting down as you suggest. I have now
unchecked the box and this seems to have cured the problem. THank you very
much.
Irony of it all - this morning I went out and bought a new PC because I was
so fed up with this problem.
keep smiling.....
