Printing with Epson 2200 and Imageprint

I just got the Software 'Imageprint' and installed it on my PC to get
decent B&W Prints. But after using Photoshop to make my color pictures
B&W thru the'discard color' function, Imageprint will open them in a
threefold manner. Instead of one picture it opens the same picture
three times in B&W. And they are sort of distorted, squeezed into the
original picture format. I guess it happens, because there are still
the three channels for RGB stored in the picture itself. How can I
eliminate the triple effect in photoshop, so I can open them just as
one B&W picture in Imageprint? The scanned color photos open just fine
after being worked on in photoshop.

Can anyone help?

A few questions. Which version of Photoshop and which OS do you use.

I just tested Photoshop 5.5 in Windows, and when taking an RGB image and
converting it to grayscale (Images>Mode>Grayscale) a box comes up saying
"Discard color Information?", to which I indicate OK. At that point,
the image goes from a three channel image (R,G,B) to a one channel image
(Black).

Is this how you have been converting to your "B&W" image, or are you
using another method?

There are many differing opinions on the best way to make a Grayscale
image from a color one in Photoshop, including use of the channel mixer,
going to LAB and discarding the a and b channels leaving only the L
(alpha) channel (looks like that might be how Photoshop internally
creates the Grayscale image, anyway).

But several of these methods will create one channel. How have you been
making your images grayscale?

Thanks. You were right. I just had to convert back to RGB and then it
opens fine in Imageprint. No more multiplying-problems.
But...now I wanted to print under Imageprint and it just doesn't do it.
I have followed the Imageprint installation instructions for the setup
and did everything correct. I have windows 2000, USB connection. At the
set up I gave instead of USB001 the name 'EPSON Stylus Photo 2200' as a
port. That was according to the instructions.
Under control panel after the installation of Imageprint there are now
two printers installed. One is still the old original EPSON Stylus
Photo 2200 and the other is called just Epson2200. I tried using each
of them as a default printer but neither seems to print under
Imageprint. I played around with port settings (first I tried USB001
and then C:\Program Files\ImagePrint\spool\printers\Epson2200) under
Ports, I set it on 'print directly to printer', driver is 'Imageprint'
with the Epson2200 printer under advanced.
Worth mentioning is that at windows start up an error message comes up
telling that a printer driver failed to install. This window never came
up before the installation of Imageprint. And with the Epson2200 I am
not able to print a test page, so already at this point it fails. The
printing icon appears in the task bar and goes away, but no test page.
Man, what am I doing wrong? Thanks.
