I connect my Laptop (win 2k) to my home network (XP and
Win98). My printer is on the XP Home pc.I can print with
the printer from the laptop. When I connect to my work
network via VPD, I am unable to print to the printer due
to a security error. Can anyone tell me how to acces the
printer?

Thanks

Some VPN clients disable access to the local LAN when they operating; all
TCP/IP traffic is routed through the VPN connection.

Can you access shares on your XP Home pc when the laptop has the VPN client
running?

Try posting in the microsoft.public.windowsxp.network_web newsgroup.

If you can't see the shares, then you won't be able to print either.

It's almost certainly a feature of the VPN client and service you are using.

One of the organisations we deal with has a very restrictive VPN client and
server. In order to print, we have to provide them with the IP address of
each print server, which they configure somehow into their VPN server.

You might want to have a discussion with whoever is supporting the VPN
service.
