dear ng
my local print server receives all print jobs from our two terminalservers.
this local print server should forward the print jobs to about 60
print-servers in different locations (and domains). how should i connect to
this external printer servers form our internal print server. is it a good
idea to send the jobs to the share ? \\external-printserver\enduser-printer
????

thanx alot for any help

tim

Depends on the nature of the Printer Server. Are you talking about a
"computer" or a hardware device known as a "print server" or the "NIC" that
goes in a printer which is also called a "printer server".

After that it will depend on where the user is (by topology),...where the
printer is (by topology),...and what is between them and how you traverse
the distance between them.
It is not a simple question to answer.

But as far as the one Printer Server "forwarding" to other ones...I don't
think it would even work that way to begin with. I think you would have to
just directly send to the right printer (printer server) in the first place
from the beginning.

There are printer "clusters" (were they called "print groups"?,..I forget)
but you don't control which printer does the printing, so I don't think that
would do you any good.

phillip, to be more precise;

my scenario is a terminal-server farm, where one w2k3 server is dedicated as
print server. this print server receives all output from the
terminal-server. it should forward the job's to other 'external' print
servers which are located at our customers. these external print servers are
w2k3 oder w2k server where the print device is attached to. the external
print servers do not belong to our windows-domain. so how should i forward
the print jobs ? thanx alot

Just install remote printers on the local print server, share them and
install on the Terminal Servers.

I don't think the whole "forwarding" idea is possible at all to start
with,...domains or not domains.
