I recently bought this new printer and it worked at first then began erroring
out after printing only a few lines of the job - been throught trouble
shooting with brother and prints from wordpad no prob so Brother says not the
printer or drivers - I get the following error in the log - "homeoffice error
win32 error 6(0x6) . Ithen loaded on alternate Laptop and all works great-
Back to desktop

Tried to reload printer sftwr and get stopped at paperport - will not config
the usbport so will not let me load multi function center sftw and it will
not print - Have deleted all print drivers where I see in the sever window
under printers that the usb port is not assigned to a printer but awaitng one
- tried to reload - same error

Talked to DELL and they want to reimage and then I am screwed and have to
reload all apps and hopefully have saved all my files properly to external
and can relaod from there - sounds like the easy way out -

ANYONE HAVE ANY IDEAS???????

First thing to try on the PC that seems to be giving the trouble is a System
Restore to the point BEFORE you first installed the Brother software.

Brother had a cleanup utility on the web. I'd suggest that you use it. Also,
you may need to uninstall the USB port and controller drivers, then let
windows reinstall them. You should install the brother software before you
plug in the printer. Also, I had more reliable results using the lan drivers
and lan ethernet connection. At least the multifunction software works
properly via the LAN connection. I had all sorts of trouble getting it to
work via a USB connection. I have an early 420 cn that was installed a
couple of years ago. I got the feeling that the USB port usage does
something untoward to the registry entries, as it was necessary to clean
them out manually via instructions from brother. This was before a cleanup
utility was on the web site. The purpose of uninstalling the USB drivers is
to "disconnect" any residual registry info from the "logical" interface
scheme, thus allowing updated current info to be generated.

Sequence
uninstall printer drivers and multifunction software (Printer is
disconnected)
reboot into safe mode
check for dead or garbage driver/device entries concerning the usb subsystem
remove any you know to be incorrect, or all if you are going to start over
with the USB subsystem
reboot into safe mode again, and see if your changes "stuck" If you had
removed the USB port and controller entries, windows should replace them
after the reboot.
If so, do another reboot into windows and then install the printer software
and drivers.

Good luck!

If your keyboard and mouse are connected via USB, you may need to have P/S 2
port versions available, since taking out the USB subsystem may take out the
ability to control the system via keyboard and mouse.

Ok - I will attempt to try that - My question though is that I have had
brother printers for 5 years and this was a different model so I assume
different drivers. So how far back do I go, to March when I installed this
software????

Also - Does a system restore affect my data files???????

Chuck - Thanks loads for the possibility as it seems like something I can do on my own - I will study your info and if I have any questions - I will repost

Chuck - Brother claims it has no cleanup utility - only windows does and if is for disc space

Brother calls the cleanup utility an "uninstall" utility, the current
version has a 2007 date. It is on the website.

if is for disc space
