Printing to a local printer

I cannot get my printer to show up to be able to print to it as a local printer when I am hooked up through VPN remote desktop. I checked all the drivers and they are all up to date. Is there something else I need to check or do to get this to work. I have had several people look into it and nobody can seem to figure out why it does not work. Any help would be greatlyu appreciated.
