I have 4 computers running XP PRo in my house. We are all connected to a switch, the switch is connected to a Lynksys Router for internet. I have the XP firewall running on each system. I have followed the directions from here http://www.microsoft.com/security/protect/ports.asp, for allowing print sharing through a firewall and when I put the port in the first time anyone can print to my printer, but the cannot print any more
Under the port setup in the Firewall box, It ask for the computer IP for this port and per the instructions I put in the 127.0.0.1. I click ok and still no one can print. When I go back to edit the port the 127.0.0.1 is changed to my computer name. I am thinking this why no one can print.

Is there a way to keep the number instead of the name, or am I messing up something else. When I take off the firewall everyone can print to my printer with no problems so I know it has to do with the firewall

I have the following ports open for TC
13
44

For UDC I have
13
13
13
44

Still it will only work once I turn the ports on and then that is it, have to remove firewall and then put it back in order to prin

Any help or suggestions.

You have a router, you do not really need individual firewalls on each PC
and the built in XP firewall does not work well on a LAN. If you really
think you need individual firewalls, try a third party solution like
ZoneAlarm (free)

Thank you for the info. I thought I was getting double the protection. Guess with the Router in place I dont need the firewall. Great News!!
