Printing Through USB

I am not a technical person at all but I'll try to give you as much
information as I can. I'm hoping you can help.

I work for a doctor's office and we use an outside billing company. The
medical software the billing company uses is Medisoft and I am able to access
this software remotely. The company has Windows 2000 Terminal Server.

Do you have any idea if while connected remotely I can print out reports
using a printer that has a USB connection? The billing company's team of
technical support say that they have never been able to get their clients to
print reports remotely unless the client's printer is connected through
parallel port.

If you have any idea about this issue I would greatly appreciate your input.

USB printers are supported, if you are using the latest Terminal
Services client (at least version 5.1).
Some USB printers (for example HP printers) create a custom printer
port on the client computer. If that is the case, you have to make
a change in the registry of your client to enable redirection of
your USB printer.

Explained here:
302361 - Printers That Use Ports That Do Not Begin With COM, LPT,
or USB Are Not Redirected in a Remote Desktop or Terminal Services
Session

Vera,
Thanks so much for taking the time to help me. I will forward the links you
sent to the company to see what they can do.

Yesterday I spoke with someone at Microsoft who was trying to help (I'm
really not sure about this person's IT background though - he works in the
pre-sales dept.) and he directed me to this article:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;238841

His opinion based on the above article is that one cannot print remotely
with a USB port. If you have time I would love to hear your opinion.

That's an older KB article. Should be removed or changed, I guess.

USB printers are supported (but not other USB devices, like
scanners or cameras).
Note that the changes that are described in KB article 302361 have
to be made on your workstation, not at the billing company.
