Printing slows my W2k3, system.exe at 98%

I have a w2k3 connected to a dot matrix printer. When I
send anything to print, the printer starts printing
without any problems, but the computer turns very slow.
Go to Task Manager and the system.exe process of my pc is
at 98%. My computer is Pentium IV 2.6gb with 1gb ram.

The printer is shared and when I send a job from another
workstation to the printer, the problem is the same, the
computer slows down a lot until the print job is finished.

McAfee Antivurus installed, I think its well protected
against viruses.

Any ideas how to solve this?

Thanks in advance.

Things to check:...
- Go to Printers and Faxes > File > Server Properties > Drivers and
uninstall the print drivers. See if updated drivers are available. If so,
download and install. If not, then reinstall the ones you have
- Ensure that the printer is using the WinPrint print processor with the
RAW data type (Properties > Advanced > Print Processor)
- Ensure that the "Spool print documents..." option is selected in the
Advanced tab of the printer properties
- If the above doesn't work, try clearing the checkbox for "Enable advanced
printing features". This takes some of the print job processing load of of
the server when printing to the network

Let me know if you have any luck with this.

Thanks Jason, but I tried every step and check
everything, no luck. Computer still slows down.

Any idea what else I have to do, to solve this?

Thnaks in advance

Another thing, when I send print jobs from this computer
to a shared printer, everything works good. The problem
is only with the one attached.

Yes, always, but you know what, the problem is with the
w2k3, when I run XP in the same machine, I don't have the
problem.
