I've got two questions that I hope any of your readers can help me with.
The first is;
How can I make documents that are sent to the printer automatically paused?
The printer is connected locally to a XP PC. This PC is then connected to a
network in which several macs and several pcs all send data to the printer.
I've seen this automatic pausing done on corporate networks, such as
colleges, and would like to apply it to my home network. The advantage of
this "automatic pausing" over "pausing the printer" is that it allows me to
resume print jobs when I want them to print, which isn't always the time that
I send them.
My second query is:
When my netoworked computers (which shouldn't have a relevence in this case,
I don't think).
Send documents to the printer their jobs appear as "remote Level download".
I am able to pause, restart and cancel the jobs as if I was printing locally.
When looking at the properties of a local print (one that I've sent from the
computer that's connected to) I can change the print quality and other
settings as per normal, before they are sent to the printer. Whereas when I
access the properties of a "networked print job". I can't change the
settings, when I change them click, apply. They SEEM to have changed, but
then when I re-open the properties they are returned to ones that were sent
over the network.
This is a pain for two reasons. The MAC driver for my printer doesn't
contain all of the print quality etc settings that I wish to access. So I
would like to be able to change the odd document to "draft" from this
computer but can't because changing of the properties arn't allowed.
(I'm an adminstrator of the computer)
I hope that you can answer any of my questions. The first one is also a
result/cure of having the second one. If I was able to do both. I can have
people send documents in what ever print quality and then because they are
automatically paused, I can resume them once I have changed the quality to
what I think best. (draft for research, best for porfolios etc.)
If you can give me any help, or suggest webpages that might be able to help
with my problem, I would much appreciate it.
Thankyou for all your time (It's probably taken you ten mins to read just
this post)
