I currently work from home quite a bit. I am unable to print the information
that I have input to my work computer at home. It is not beneficial to work
from home if I am unable to print what I have input. Looking for help with
this problem.

Thanks

Hi,

Before connecting, click options and on the local resources tab choose to
add the local printers.

Rick: Thankyou so much. I also noticed that GTS has sent a response stating
that the host computer must show the printer drivers. I hate to sound so
dense, but does this mean that I should go to the office and load the printer
information on my computer at the office.

GTS: As you can see I responded to Rick also. What you are telling me is
that I will need to go up to the office and install the printer information
on my office computer, right.

If this is what you are telling me, then I guess I am not quite as dense as
I thought. Because I had just told my husband last night that I thought
maybe I could trick the computer at work by loading the printer information
for my home computer into the work computer. Or am I reading the answer
wrong. I am still pretty new at all of this computer mumbo jumbo.

Thank you so much for getting back to me.

Yes, you must load the driver for your home printer on the office PC to be
able to print locally while connected by Remote Desktop. (Note when
installing the driver at the office printer specify it a non-plug-and-play
local printer.)

Okay, now you lost me on the plug and play. I hate to sound so daft, but
when I get to the office and load the printer information. Exactly where
would I note that it is a non plug and play device. I often wonder how it is
that you computer savvy folks put up with the dense questions that we slower
learners ask. But, you can't imagine how you have helped me. I am Health
and Safety Director for the Red Cross and with Katrina creating such horrible
conditions in the South, my department has fell behind quite a bit and not
being able to print at home has really thrown me for a loop. \

Thanks again.

Hi,

Yes, but if your local printer is set up properly, and the remote machine is
set up properly, the driver installation should be done by the remote
machine using default WinXP-supplied drivers (meaning you shouldn't have to
do anything). You will not have full printer functionality, like the tools,
but printing should be fine. More on this:

There's nothing dense about it. These things aren't obvious when you're
doing them for the first time.
When you run Add Printer (from Control Panel Printers and Faxes) one of the
first screens has a check off item to specify a local or network printer.
Under the Local printer option, there's another checkbox for "Automatically
detect and install my Plug and Play printer." That should not be selected
if you are installing a driver when the printer is not physically connected.
Otherwise, Windows tries to find the hardware causing some difficulties.
