I purchased windows xp and now having problems with
printing on my Brother Multifunction. Either my attempts
take 5 - 15 mins to print or are unsuccessful. I
contacted brother about this and was advised that it is a
problem with xp. Is there a way to fix this? the support
at brother suggested changing my LPT1 port from ECP to
standard (for which I have no idea of how to do), see if
others knows of this problem and how to resolve it or
find if a patch is available. I was unsuccessful in my
attempts to find a patch.

Brother tech support's suggestion to change the port setting from ECP to
standard is worth trying.

To do this, quit Windows and restart the computer in the usual way. As the
computer boots, enter the BIOS setup. This is usually done by pressing the
Delete key on your keyboard at the appropriate moment during computer
startup. See the manual that came with your computer for details.

When the BIOS setup screen appears, navigate to the setting for the port the
printer is using (usually lpot1) and change to Standard or SPP or
bi-directional port or some such but _not_ ECP or EPP or ECP & EPP. Save
settings and exit.

Let the computer restart.

Check printing.

Let us know.
