Printing problems in XP Embedded

Hi,
I am working on a project where we are replacing over 400 Computers with
Thin Terminals all running Windows XP Embedded (with SP1), but we are having
huge problems with printing.

Basically, when we use the Windows print driver for the network printer
(TCP/IP port has already been created), once we do a windows print test page
the test page does not display the windows logo, all the text is a much
smaller size than it should be (and all the same size - not even the "Windows
XP Printer Test Page" is larger), and there is no bold text.
Then, when we print from a web page it does not print any of the images, the
formatting is not correct (again the tables not displayed correctly and the
font is all the same small size and no bold text etc), and there are other
weird characters (looks like 2 letters overlayed on top of eachother - eg,
the letter 'e' overlayed with the letter 'l').

I have tried using the drivers that come with XP Embedded for the specific
printer.

It is happening on all printers we have tried (Lexmark T522, Lexmark E323,
Apple LaserWriter 16/600).

Cannot get any free email support from Microsoft because the Thin Terminals
were purchased from HP, and were pre-loaded with XPe with sp1.

The generic HP Laserjet driver does not work either.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Fonts?

Did you install all necessary fonts?

Hi,

No I haven't thought of installing any fonts, but that wouldnt be the reason
why images do not print.
Not even a normal windows print test page comes out correctly, and that uses
very standard fonts.

Chris

Well, you mentioned that print out has very small fonts. As I understood
you you get something out from the printer but with incorrect fonts?
That's why I guessed that it may be font or DPI settings problem.

I assume you're installing the printer drivers yourself? It sounds like
HP haven't included some of the components required to support printing.

Hi,

Any ideas on what I can look at to try and resolve the problem?

yes I am installing the printer driver myself. I have tried the built-in
drivers with Windows XP Embedded, but none of them seem to work.
I also tried the latest drivers for the Lexmark T522 for Windows XP, but
they did not work either. The only driver I ended up getting to work was a
Lexmark T522 CUSTOM driver for Windows XP. I have no idea what the Custom
driver provides which the normal driver does not.

Any ideas on what to check would be great.

Regards,
Chris :)

Hrm... I only really deal with images I've made myself, and at the
moment I'm at home (week off! Yay!) so I don't have my tools with me to
have a play... Could you perhaps put on depends or filemon to see what
the system is missing?
