Printing problems in Windows 2000

I am connecting a plotter (Encad Cadjet 2) to the local
port lpt1 on my computer. Windows 2000 recognizes the
plotter, installs the software and drivers, then won't
print a test page.
Whats happening

Question: Is the test page hitting the queue?
Question: Have you restarted the print spooler service?
Possible bad printer cable. Try changing the driver to
something else simpler and try to print out a test page to
eliminate the driver. It wont print out right but it will
try to talk to the printer.
